Beef Stroganoff is one of the most favored of recent trending meals in the world. It is enjoyed by millions daily. It’s easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. They are nice and they look fantastic. Beef Stroganoff is something that I’ve loved my entire life.
This recipe uses a roux to create a beef gravy that is then thickened with sour cream AND cream cheese. A little bit of zip is added using pepper flakes. With its tender chunks of beef coated in a luscious creamy sauce and served over a bed of buttery noodles, it's no wonder Beef Stroganoff is such a hit. With all that flavor, you might assume it's a complicated dish, but it's actually quite the opposite.

The ingredients needed to make Beef Stroganoff:
- Get 1 1⁄2 lbs lean beef
- Take 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- Take 1 (14 1⁄2 oz) can beef broth
- Take 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- Take 1 medium onion diced
- Get 1-2 cloves garlic chopped fine
- Get 2 tsp baking soda
- Take Olive oil
- Take 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
- Take Salt and pepper
- Take Pinch nutmeg
- Get 1⁄4 cup sour cream
- Prepare Flour
- Get Egg noodles
Season the steak strips with House Seasoning, then dust with flour. In a large skillet, quickly brown them on both sides in the olive oil and butter. Remove the steak from the pan. Add the onion slices and mushrooms to the pan drippings.
Steps to make Beef Stroganoff:
- Slice beef into 1⁄2 by 2in strips, then place in bowl and drizzle with olive oil and baking soda, mix to coat beef, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour
- Place beef in a colander and rinse under cold water, pat with paper towels to dry
- In a large sauté pan heat a little oil and brown meat on all sides, remove from pan set aside
- In the same pan melt 2 tablespoons of butter add onion and mushrooms, sauté until most of the moisture has evaporated, then add garlic and sauté a minute more
- Sprinkle with about 2 tablespoons of flour, cook stirring for a minute or two making a roux, add beef broth stirring to release any brown bits from bottom of pan, until slightly thickened then add reserved beef, mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, and nutmeg. Lower heat to medium low and simmer 30 minutes or more if you want the beef very tender, stir occasionally
- Cook egg noodles according to package directions, drain
- When noodles are done, stir sour cream into beef mixture, adjust seasoning, serve over noodles
Remove the steak from the pan. Add the onion slices and mushrooms to the pan drippings. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and brown the beef strips quickly, then push the beef strips off to one side. Stroganoff sauce is a sour cream gravy made with beef broth that's thickened with flour. It's flavoured with mustard and has mushrooms in it.
